Lewisham Mencap is a volunteer-led organisation providing over 40,000 hours of social activities a year to people who have learning disabilities. Founded in 1952, we offer lively social clubs, days-away to the coast and supported holidays.
Our Clubs sustain important friendships, relationships and support networks. They are the foundation on which Mencap ensure our Members:
– Enjoy a fun and positive social life
– Maintain and improve their health
– Are safe and thriving
– Discover and use their talents
– Develop digital skills
– Participate fully in life as active citizens of Lewisham
Lewisham Mencap is financially secure, our work is funded by a combination of a 4-year Council Grant, rental income and volunteer time.
Like many charities, our volunteers and trustees are getting older and there is not ayounger generation emerging who will continue our efforts. Whilst we are able to maintain the quality of our existing clubs, we are finding it increasingly difficult to take-on new work which is much-needed in the borough. For example, working with young people leaving special educational provision.
We are seeking Expressions of Interest from people or organisations who have the vision and values to merge with Lewisham Mencap. We offer our expertise, volunteers base, thriving Gateway Clubs and fixed assets: We are looking for an organisation with Core Infrastructure that has the capacity to ensure we continue to provide excellent activities, whilst also accessing the many funding opportunities that we currently do not have the time to apply for.
We seek to complete this process by the end of August 2024. Please download the PDF attached at the link below for the complete merging proposal.
