About Lewisham Mencap

Our Objectives

To ensure that people with learning disabilities, their families and their carers lead fulfilling lives with access to the support and services that they need.

To help our members enjoy happy social lives, where friendships and support networks help ensure they feel included, valued and loved.

To combat the stigma, isolation and a lack of purpose that can often be felt by people with learning disabilities and their families.

To showcase the talents and abilities of our members by keeping them at the centre of all we do; from running our social clubs, to our campaigns for better local services.

Our Mission

We run lively, weekly social clubs which provide regular evening activities in a safe and fun environment.

We organise annual supported holidays that offer our members the chance to see new places and have new adventures.

We support our members to lead and contribute to the running of all our activities, to demonstrate their talent and skills. This includes the ‘Events Crew’ – our membership committee – who organise all our weekend discos.

We work together as one membership body to campaign for improved services and care.

We offer befriending, support and help to our members when they feel isolated or in need.

Our Values

Parity: Our members have talents, skills, dreams and aspirations that are valuable

Equity: Our members should have equal opportunities to fulfil those ambitions

Safety: We ensure that our services are safe; we consider risks and mitigate them; we help members to navigate the risks of the modern world

Optimism: We believe in the power of our membership and that by working together, we can make Lewisham a great place to live for people with learning disabilities and their families.
